The Waiting Game

You all know how excited Amy and I are for me to get started on Gleevec. I thought I was going to be able to start it today, but my insurance company has not approved it yet. Out of curiosity Amy asked how much this drug would cost, if insurance did not cover it. A cool $5,000 a month! We don't have any reason to believe our insurance will deny it, but it certainly gives you pause. We know how lucky we are that we have great insurance, as well as the financial means to tackle unexpected expenses.

Let me get on my soap box for one second: If you are a younger person reading this blog, and think you are invincible, think again! Check out your insurance options. Yes, it may seem like a lot of money now, but it is nothing compared to medical bills! There, all done.

In other news, we've officially ordered our own UVA-1 light box. Should be here in about 2 weeks. We'll be sure to write up a full report when I have had a few treatments.

  1. Hi Greg, Gleevac is a great drug, I was on it before my bmt. It took some getting use to, I think the patent only has a year left then it should be cheaper. I also looked into getting it from India ( generic brand ) We are lucky down under (Australia) government pays for it under certain conditions.
